IP communications can be viewed as the combination of voice, data, and video, including multi-media applications, running within an integrated data infrastructure. It is presently heralded as the panacea of efficient networking under the auspices of Convergence to underpin a cost-effective method for implementing and managing a large integrated agent or user base. However, as with most technologies it is important to understand the strengths and weaknesses and indeed the limitations before any contemplation of purchase and roll out is undertaken.
This paper presents a high level and summary views of the present IP technology and in particular the important aspects of migrating to VoIP (voice over IP).
